How We Chose our Topic:
First, we all decided we would like to work in groups. All three of us decided to work together because we are friends, like the same things, get work together easily, and live near each other so it would be easy to meet up together. After considering many topics such as Jackie Robinson we decided to choose Ray Kroc/ McDonalds History. We choose this topic because we all liked McDonalds and knew little about its history and wanted to learn more about it. Mrs. King our great History teacher approved our topic and said it was a wonderful topic for this year’s theme. The benefits of working in groups are you get multiple perspectives, you can get more info done, and you can get other ideas you didn’t think of. The negatives of working in a group are you can get off topic and it is hard to meet up sometimes. Despite this we remained in a group.
How We Conducted Our Research:
For the research portion of the project we mainly went to Sean Briggs house. We went there because he has lots of space, food, and many computers to help us with our research. The most useful source we found was his Obituary on an old NY Times magazine. Some surprises for us were that it was very hard to find quality primary sources. My grandpa who was alive back then gave us insights in an interview that we conducted.
How We Selected Our Presentation Category and Created Our Project:
Out of all the types of project category we chose a website. We chose a website for two reasons. One last year we did a project and did a website and it came out really good and got a 100. The second reason is we would not make a good exhibit because we are not very artsy. We made our website on weebly.com and made it at Kyle and Sean B’s Houses. We made the colors of the Website red and yellow because those are the colors of McDonalds. We put lots of pictures because we found many that could tell his story. We put lots of quotes because it tells lots about his personality.
How your Project Relates to the NHD Theme:
Our project relates to the NHD theme this year “Turning Points in History”. It relates to the theme because Ray Kroc changed Fast Food in many ways. First, Kroc made McDonalds the first ever the global restaurant. He inspired many business and restaurants to go global. He also created the first ever drive thru. He made fast food one of the most popular ways to eat food. He also changed the San Diego Padres Organization by buying them. If he had not they could have changed cities. He also affected many people’s lives by donating money to many charities.
